Welcome to the website of the Manawatu Scottish Society. We are a small Society in Palmerston North, New Zealand. We have three pipe bands and a country dance club affiliated to the Society. The Manawatu Scottish No.1 & No.2 bands use our hall for practice as does the country dance club. The third pipe band, The Pipes & Drums of Palmerston North & Districts, consists mostly of mature musicians and are in great demand for local functions and parades. The No. 1 band is an international band with few members who live in Palmerston North. The No. 2 band has had a great season, winning the grade 3 National Championship at Masterton and then The Australian Grade 3 National Championship at Caloundra. Our aim is to foster Scottish culture and we do that by providing and maintaining a hall for the bands and dancers to practice, organise solo and Pipe Band contests and have functions to celebrate Robert Burns and St. Andrew. We also have various other social functions as we feel the urge. Navigate with the buttons on the left side of the screen to find out more about us. There is information and entry forms for Jenny Mair Highland Square Day, held in Palmerston North Square every year on the second Saturday in December, with around twenty bands competing from around New Zealand and Australia.
